I am a public-school educator and district-level administrator with more than 15 years of experience working across teaching, curriculum, budgeting, and school governance. I am also a parent of four children who attended PSB. I am running for the Brookline School Committee to help strengthen oversight, improve long-term planning, and ensure that policy decisions are grounded in educational impact and fiscal responsibility.
I currently serve as Director of Mathematics for Medford Public Schools, where I am responsible for K–12 curriculum alignment, program evaluation, professional development, and budget development. In my over seven years of serving in this role, I have led the department through three High Quality Instructional Material (HQIM) programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels by forming committees that included parents and educators. My work includes presenting programming updates to the School Committee, managing departmental expenditures, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements, and coordinating with principals and central administration to implement district priorities.
Previously, I taught mathematics in inclusive classrooms at Medford High School, including AP Computer Science (Java) and core mathematics courses such as Algebra and Geometry at College Prep (CP) and Honors level, for students with disabilities and English learners. I began my teaching career through the well-reputed Boston Teacher Residency program, which emphasized data-driven instruction, collaboration, and accountability to reach ALL students and helped me gain respect for this profession. I have also served in volunteer educational leadership roles as a principal and an assistant principal at an Islamic faith-based Sunday school, overseeing staffing, programming, and operations while prioritizing students’ experience. I currently serve as the president of this center, where I have worked to fine-tune the budget, increase programming, and promote internal and external communication.
I hold an Doctor of Education in Leadership in Schooling from UMass Lowell, with a focus on educational governance, equity, and systems-level data-informed decision-making. This training informs how I approach policy: by analyzing tradeoffs, anticipating downstream impacts, and centering decisions on student outcomes while maintaining public trust.
I have prior experience working on the Brookline education committees, such as the Parent Advisory Committee for Enrichment & Challenge Support and the Brookline Middle School Mathematics Program Review Committee, giving me familiarity with the district’s context and expectations. I am running to support clearer governance, more transparent financial planning, and policies that protect student-facing services while strengthening long-term fiscal and educator sustainability.
